A 10x10 kitchen remodel costs an average of about $24,000. Depending on the grade of materials you choose, it can cost anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000.
A 10x10 kitchen is a standard size in many homes. Ten feet wide by 10 feet long, it is large enough to include all of the basic elements of a kitchen yet small enough to fit in most homes.

Cost Factors for a 10x10 Kitchen Remodel
Cabinets, countertops, flooring, and appliances are the four elements of a kitchen that determine most of its price.
Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets, which fill most of the wall space in a 10x10 kitchen, cost an average of $13,000. They're among the most expensive items in any kitchen remodel.
"In a 10x10 kitchen, you would most likely be looking at 12 cabinets, typically arranged in an L-shape," Carfield says. "For a galley kitchen, you would normally have the cabinets on opposite walls facing each other."
Due to design flexibility, a kitchen of this size may use eight to 14 cabinets, Cito says.
Countertops
Quartz, granite, solid surface, and laminate are widely installed because they are durable, attractive, and offer good resale value. Costs range from $20 to $120 per square foot.
- Quartz: $60 to $120 per square foot
- Granite: $50 to $120 per square foot
- Solid surface: $50 to $80 per square foot
Concrete, soapstone, and stainless steel give the kitchen a unique look, but they are less often used. Costs run from $40 to $120 per square foot.
- Concrete: $40 to $100 per square foot
- Soapstone: $75 to $120 per square foot
- Stainless steel: $55 to $120 per square foot
If you're a DIYer looking to save money on your 10x10 kitchen remodel, try laminate or tile. Each material costs from $20 to $40 per square foot.
Kitchen Flooring
The best kitchen flooring options will be materials that are water-resistant, durable, and reasonably affordable.
On average, expect to pay $2,000 to $4,000 for flooring in a 10x10 kitchen.
- Vinyl plank: Vinyl plank floor costs an average of $6.70 per square foot, ranging from $3 to $10.35 per square foot. Waterproof and durable, vinyl plank flooring is a floating floor, so it doesn't need to be nailed down and is easy to install.
- Ceramic tile: Installation costs range from $9 to $46 per square foot, with an average of $27 per square foot. Waterproof and available in many colors and styles, ceramic tile is a proven kitchen flooring favorite.
- Engineered wood: Engineered wood flooring costs from $6 to $12 per square foot. It is made of real wood veneer bonded to a high-quality plywood base.
- Laminate flooring: Laminate flooring installation costs start as low as $1 to $3 per square foot for the materials only, up to $10 to $12 for premium laminate. Labor costs $2 to $8 per square foot.
- Solid hardwood floor: Solid hardwood floor costs from $11 to $14.50 per square foot for red or white oak solid wood to $18 to $22 per square foot for maple, cabreuva, and kempas non-domestic premium hardwood.
Appliances
- Refrigerators: Most refrigerators cost from $1,000 to $2,000.
- Stove: Electric stoves start at about $500. Higher-end induction costs cost from $2,500 to $5,600.
- Dishwashers: Dishwashers cost from $400 to $700, on up to $2,000 or more.
Design and Planning
Hiring a designer costs about $100 per hour, with costs that range from $50 to $200 per hour.
How to Save Money on a 10x10 Kitchen Remodel
One benefit of a 10x10 kitchen remodel is that it's easy to save money. A kitchen of this limited size practically has savings built into it since you can only install a certain number of expensive items like cabinets, appliances, and flooring.
"To save money on this type of remodel, go with framed cabinets and a lower-quality sink, faucet, and disposal," Cito says. "Find a countertop to save money, and choose a four-inch backsplash."
Cito also recommends avoiding moving or rearranging the kitchen layout, keeping the electrical work in place, and keeping the same flooring, if possible.
Carfield says the number one way people can save money on a kitchen remodel is to avoid replacing materials.
"Paint the existing cabinets instead of installing new ones," Carfield says. "Anything you can keep and refurbish or repaint, such as refinishing your countertops or flooring, will also help."
Best Time for a Kitchen Remodel
The trick to negotiating lower costs for a kitchen remodel is to remodel when few others are doing it.
"In Arizona, we usually slow down in the summer because everyone leaves due to the heat," Carfield says. "Other areas of the country may experience slow seasons around the holidays because people are focused on things other than home remodeling."
She adds that it's always worth speaking with kitchen remodeling companies to see if they have any bargains around these times of year.
Maximize Your Kitchen Remodel
Maximize room in a 10x10 kitchen with these space-saving tips from kitchen designer Gina Cito:
- Use drawers as much as possible to help you fully use the cabinets.
- With blind corner cabinets, lazy Susans help you fully use corner space.
- Pull-out and roll-out trays maximize the cabinet's full space.
- Install full access or frameless cabinets for more space in each cabinet.
"When going with a full access cabinet," says Cito, "you gain two to three inches of storage space per cabinet over a traditional framed cabinet. In a kitchen that has eight to 14 cabinets, you could gain anywhere from 24 to 48 inches of additional space."
Choosing a fully customizable cabinet allows you to modify it to fit the exact space, eliminates the need for fillers, and allows full use of all of the space available.
- How many cabinets are included in a 10x10 kitchen?
A 10x10 kitchen will have about 12 cabinets, on average. But it can have as few as eight cabinets and as many as 14 cabinets.
What is the most expensive part of a kitchen remodel? The most expensive part of a kitchen remodel is the cabinets. In a 10x10 kitchen remodel, cabinets cost about $13,000 out of a total average kitchen remodel cost of $24,000.
Is a 10x10 kitchen small?A 10x10 kitchen (100 square feet) is considered small-to-average in size. The average kitchen size is between 161 and 169 square feet, which translates to a kitchen of about 13 feet by 13 feet.
