I've been thrifting as long as I can remember, especially when it comes to sourcing fun and unique items for my home. It's always been exciting to go through various shelves to see what treasures I can find that day and what I can use to make my space more me.

However, it can be challenging to know what's actually worth bringing back home and what needs to be put back down, so I've decided to share the top questions I ask myself whenever I go on one of my thrifting adventures.

Where Do I Have Space for This Item?

It can be easy to convince yourself that you need a specific item after loving how it looks or seeing it at a discounted price, but it's important to take a step back and envision where it would fit it in your space.

Think about the ways you would style it and if it would elevate your current space or make it messier. If nothing is coming to mind or you feel like you're forcing yourself to find space, it may actually not be the right item to bring home with you.

Is This Item in Good Condition?

When it comes to items like dishes, bowls, or cups, it's common to find small chips or worn-out paint marks. At the moment, you may think you can do some DIY to make it look brand new, but it's important to be realistic with yourself and the condition of the item.

If buying all the materials to turn it around is worth way more than the actual item you're purchasing, it may be worth reconsidering.

Will I Regret Not Buying This Item?

We've all been there: Thinking about an item days after your thrifting trip and regretting not buying it. To prevent this from happening, ask yourself how much the item is really worth to you. If you don't see yourself finding something similar or even better in the future, it may be worth snagging before it's too late.

Does This Have Any Meaning to Me?

In my earlier thrifting days, I would buy anything that would catch my eye whether it was my favorite color or it would be on par with current trends. Over time, I realized how unsustainable this was because I would eventually neglect the item and let it be buried away or re-donated.

To combat this, I started to choose items that actually had some kind of meaning to me—like a design that reminded me of my loved ones or a memory I cherished as a kid. These personal connections allowed me to appreciate the item I was bringing back and cherish it for years.
